What is CPR Carnival?
The Penang CPR Society would like to organise a Hands-Only CPR training event in collaboration with its partners comprising St John Ambulance of Malaysia, Penang, the Malaysia Red Crescent Society and Lions Club of Georgetown Central District 308 B2 Region 1. A free community-wide CPR training event will be held on the 15th of March 2015 (SUNDAY) from 8.00am-8.00pm at Han Chiang High School, Penang
This CPR carnival will help the general public acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform CPR and save lives. It is designed to help increase the ability of community members to successfully perform CPR in the event of a medical emergency prior to the arrival of Emergency Response Service (EMS).
The Objectives of CPR Carnival
The Organizing Committee hopes to:
- Teach the general public to successfully perform Hands Only CPR prior to the arrival of EMS.
- Improve rate of performance of bystander CPR
- Strengthen the Chain of Survival of a cardiac arrest victim.
- Develop models of good care between general public and health care providers to improve survival rates of cardiac arrest victims.
- Raise standards of CPR training in our country- Malaysia.
What is CPR?
CPR is Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation an important life saving first aid skill. It is the only known effective method to keep a victim of cardiac arrest alive, long enough for definitive treatment to be delivered.
What is cardiac arrest?
When cardiac arrest occurs, the victim’s breathing and heart will stop functioning normally. After 10 minutes, the victim’s chance of survival is close to zero. The victim losses about 1% chance of survival for every 6 seconds that passes.
What to do when a victim suddenly collapses?
